An unexpected surprise in Tavira yesterday

DSCN1717As you will know from previous posts we love visiting Tavira. It is such a pretty town, and when we have visitors we almost always take them there. Yesterday it was just the two of us, we fancied lunch out and as it was a tad cloudy thought Tavira the perfect place for a mooch before.

DSCN1711After strolling both sides of the Rio Gilão and a little bit of  Rio Séqua we stopped for a Galão and Chá Verde in an excellent patisserie. We resisted the cakes, still not sure how and then headed up as usual towards the castle. On our way back down we heard music coming from Church of Misericórdia de Tavira, and so peeped inside.

It was the first time we had seen the doors open and were delighted by what we saw inside. It was however the music that was the unexpected surprise. You can see him in the first picture; a pianist rehearsing.

He was superb, and surrounded by the glorious blue 18th century tiles we sat and listened for quite a while. I took a few seconds of video which give you (if the videos work!) a taste of what he was playing and if you have found me via Cate’s Six Word Saturday a musical interlude to your day.

If the videos don’t work or you happen to be in the Tavira anytime soon then do look out for Music in Churches. If the other musicians are as good as this young man then the evenings must be amazing. We’ll certainly be back for a performance soon.

It had been a good life walking, cooking, photographing, volunteering, blogging, and best of all spending time with MrB, family, & friends. Sadly it is no longer what it was, as suddenly and unexpectedly I became a widow.
