Despite living on the Algarvian coast for most of the winter we rarely made it to the beach. A little bit crazy of us I guess given how stunning they are and also how quiet out of season. We did though occasionally make it, and so after Friday’s lengthy post and walk I thought I’d share a much shorter post and stroll from a Spring beach trip.
This post is also an excuse for me to participate in a WordPress photo challenge, since like all beaches it was full of curves but maybe not the human ones you might have been expecting from my title. You’ll probably thinking how quiet the beach is given the sunshine, and you are right it was very quiet on the day we went. Not only were we out of season it was I recall very windy. I suspect the stripy curvy windbreakers of English beaches are rarely seen in Portugal! I did though find some alternative stripy curves.
The lovely Praia do Barril is located on the western end of Ilha de Tavira, it is a short walk from Pedras D’el Rei but you can also catch the train which is great fun. On the day we went the cafes were quite busy but as I’ve previously mentioned not many were actually on the beach itself and no-one was in the sea. That was probably a good thing though given the proximity of the fishermen. The boats and the nets did seem to be getting very close to the beach at one point, and one of the boats had to do some interesting turns to avoid the sandbanks. We were not too sure what they were doing but hopefully they did as the men working at the back didn’t look worried!
The Algarvian beaches out of season are wonderful and even in summer with the crowds of human curves they are good, just check out this post by al Algarve conmigo from last summer. So when I look back at this day trip I do wonder why we don’t head to the beach more often, perhaps on our next trip I’ll rectify this.
For now though I’ll finish as this post is already much longer than I intended! But before I go let me share one final photograph and, to celebrate Tim Peake’s safe return to earth on Saturday, let’s make it a ‘curvaceous space’ inspired one.
