“É Carnaval, ninguém leva a mal

There were so many ‘carnaval’ events yesterday we were not too sure which one to go and join, in the end we decided on São Brás de Alportel as we had had such an amazing time at their Easter flower parade last year. It promised to be a traditional carnival with a slight twist.

The traditional elements were certainly there with the masks, political satire and the individual participants. It was also wonderfully ramshackle at times with the many pauses, great fun and the work that had gone into the floats and routines was amazing.

Did you spot the twist in the gallery above? It was the participation of the Citroen 2Cvs. The council proclaimed there would be around 40. We didn’t see that many but some of the ones we did see were in great condition.Citroen 2Cv

I do have more photographs of the Citroens and also lots more of the parade. In fact I took so many photos that even after selecting just a tiny percent of what I took MrB said there were still too many for one post. So another post will follow tomorrow on Mardi Gras itself with the second half of the parade. But before I go today a message for President Trump just in case he sees this; read my title again! “It’s Carnival, nobody will be offended!

It had been a good life walking, cooking, photographing, volunteering, blogging, and best of all spending time with MrB, family, & friends. Sadly it is no longer what it was, as suddenly and unexpectedly I became a widow.

  1. A good time had by all, AND your Portuguese is making progress 🙂 🙂 I wasn’t sure if there’d be Mardi Gras activity in Florence. The nearest big parade is at Viareggio on the coast. We think there was a children’s parade in Florence but we were otherwise engaged. Can’t be everywhere, though I try! 🙂

    1. Hee hee – not so sure about the Portuguese but we certainly had fun!
Hope you had a fabulous time in Florence x
