What a difference a few weeks makes

Remember I said we hoped to take my Mum on the wonderful ‘Flow, Flow Guadiana‘, well we did yesterday, and it was glorious. This walk was wonderful back in early March but in early April you are almost overwhelmed by the beauty of the hills in full colour.Guadiana view

We began again with a coffee at our favourite cafe, before heading down river towards Álamo. The cafe owner thought we were somewhat crazy to walk it yesterday given the high temperatures but we had 4 litres of water between the three of us and so were feeling confident we would be fine. The climb through Álamo certainly stretched the legs again but with numerous stops for close ups of flowers and panoramic shots of the views it wasn’t that noticeable. Nor was the heat a problem not only were we heading out in the morning, we were too busy enjoying the views and smell of cistus to even notice!

We stopped again at the windmill in Corte das Donas, and MrB plans to write a post on it soon as he discovered an engine on this visit. DSCN3479Mum and I though didn’t go inside as there was an enormous bees nest with rather large black bees in the roof. Instead we enjoyed the view and I had a bit of fun with the timer setting!  From Corte das Donas of course it is virtually all downhill and it seemed as though the flora was even more beautiful.

Returning to the river we were surrounded by the smell of orange blossom and wisteria, and the sound of swallows above.  Whilst we did not feel overheated we had virtually finished all of our water, and I think all of us were pleased we were approaching the end of the walk, and looking forward to the beer at the end! Wisteria by the river

I know this is a very short post for me, but I must dash now off to Tavira to meet up with the gorgeous Jo and her husband for lunch. I’ll be back soon though with a post on my Mum’s orchid hunt.

It had been a good life walking, cooking, photographing, volunteering, blogging, and best of all spending time with MrB, family, & friends. Sadly it is no longer what it was, as suddenly and unexpectedly I became a widow.

  1. The gorgeous Jo thoroughly enjoyed her lunch in such nice company, Becky, so thank you very much. 🙂 🙂 We picked up some wine from Pingo Doce on the way back and I sat up on the roof for an hour or so before popping over to see Marie. Finally got to the blog! Looking forward to seeing your orchids. Hugs all round!

    1. What a perfect way to spend the afternoon 🙂 . . . . . I found what I wanted in the shop and then we enjoyed our afternoon doing very little too.

Thank you again so much for introducing us to the secret restaurant, and the icecreams after were delicious. Huge hugs to you both, and enjoy your last few days xx

    1. 🙂 you would love it here Anabel, so many lovely walks. Not much industrial heritage though for your other half!

      1. I’m sure he’d survive! He likes the country walks too (though he’d be climbing mountains given half the chance. I prefer something more gentle.)

        1. I’m with you on the more gentle, although it is because of the coming down. I’m like a mountain goat going up but coming down I’m hopeless!!

  2. Gosh Becky that all looks a lot like summer never mind springtime! What gorgeous flowers and all in the wild too (well I expect the wisteria isn’t). Have a fab lunch with Jo and her long-suffering hubby 😉
Sunny here too, but a very chilly wind blowing.

    1. I still have to remind myself some days it is only spring! You really have to join us one day, in fact today after lunch Jo and I were bemoaning the fact you weren’t here as we struggled to name a plant!!
We had a lovely lunch you’d love the setting – a restaurant in a secret garden 😊
Hope the blue skies remain for you xx

    1. Oh it was a gorgeous smell as was the orange blossom which preceded it. Wish I could capture the scents for you.

        1. oh I so hope they are . . . . have a wonderful time. I’ve not been to Mallorca since I was a little girl!
