A very quick post for this month’s #PastMeetsPresent as I am in Belgium, but hopefully you will enjoy it. Can you spot the difference between Dr Dan Stanislawki’s 1950s shot and my more recent ones? Not sure? Try ignoring the fact I was slightly higher than Dan and look up river, or you may find it easier to take another look at my header photo!
What a difference it must have made to Mértola and in fact Alentejo as a whole when it first opened. Change can be positive sometimes! If you fancy exploring some other #PastMeetsPresent check out these two fabulous entries from last month.
- Jo is on another bridge, this one is further south in the Algarve and we both so wish it had’t changed!
- And Liz takes us up Guildford High Street, a city where I lived very happily for a few years
And if you want to know more about Mértola then why not join me on an evening stroll or perhaps you’d prefer a magical road trip. Whichever adventure you take I am sure you will do as we have, and fall in love with this beautiful town in the south of Alentejo in Portugal.
Wow Becky – great perspective on past and present.
Thanks Clare . . . . just so lucky I bought his book!
I can see the differences… 🙂 This is amazing. We should have before and after photographs for everywhere… But I am glad to see that building didn’t gone crazily… kept the nature beauty. Thank you dear Becky, have a nice day, Love, nia
Oh Nia so glad you like, and I agree about having before and after photos for everywhere ☺
Oh, to be in Mertola right now, Becky! I’d cope with the heat. There are shady little bars, aren’t there? 🙂 🙂 Hope you’ve found a dry bit of Belgium and are having a wonderful time. I’ve got the sniffles but we still intend to meet up with some Algarve Stroller friends at Bolton Abbey today. Elegant in my little red rain cape 🙂 🙂 Many thanks for the link, hon.
We’ve had blue skies and sunshine throughout 😎 will bring some back as we return today xxx
