Dawn is breaking

Hooray! Only a few hours to go before we will be heading off to the airport to return to Portugal. No wonder it is going to be a beautiful day.Cormorants heading east

By the way did you know there are different types of dawn? There is the astronomical dawn when the sky is no longer pitch black, there is nautical dawn when sailors can distinguish between the horizon and the sea and then civil dawn when the sun is 12degrees or less below the horizon and there is sufficient light for most objects to be distinguishable. The amount of time between dawn and sunrise depends where you are in the world; if you are close to the equator it is minutes but if you are in a polar region then you could be looking at hours! Thanks as always to Wikipedia for these fascinating facts.
