Christmas Travel no5

It is not just the sunshine that makes a Portuguese Christmas special, there is also the ‘Bolo-rei’. No wonder this made it into one of my favourites for the Travel Photo 10 day challenge. Huge thanks again to Sue for nominating me and inspiring me to look back through my Christmas travel archives.

I know we are not meant to include an explanation but I suspect I will be asked lots of questions about this! So I have included below the original post. It is well worth reading as the reindeer band are something else and I’ve included ingredients for the absolutely scrumptious cake.

It had been a good life walking, cooking, photographing, volunteering, blogging, and best of all spending time with MrB, family, & friends. Sadly it is no longer what it was, as suddenly and unexpectedly I became a widow.

  1. Looks good. I shall make a Stollen next week – not that we need one with the Christmas cake, but I am in the mood for baking at the moment. I know my waistline (WHAT waistline?) will regret it.

  2. Brilliant. It’s a Spanish thing too. Both France and Spain include a lucky bean in the dough (more usually a little pottery figure these days) which brings luck all year to the person who finds it in their slice. Do they do that in Portugal?
