I just had to include this Portuguese tradition, although I am not sure how many camels usually turn up for the Dia de Reis! It doesn’t of course take place until 6th January, however today is the final day of the photo challenge. It is also Christmas Eve, which generally is a much more important day in Europe than it is in England. So I thought it only right that I finished with this glorious tradição da Epifania. It’s wonderful to be in Portugal during Christmas…But this year it’s different..
It’s so different everywhere, hopefully next Christmas will feel a bit more normal and safe
Essentially Christmas Eve will be the same here as every other year, with families focusing on food and preparation and being together. I’ve hesitated to buy my Bolo Rei as Mick would always prefer chocolate cake or apple pie and I’d eat most of it myself. Will it be a hive of industry in your kitchen today? Oh brilliant. We have enjoyed this special day, so important in Spain too, for the last three years. Fabulous processions, and a wonderful family day. It’ll be very different this year, both in Portugal and Spain. Thanks for this virtual Christmas in Portugal – it’s been a real treat.
