We see regularly Phoenicopterus now in the Algarve, but each and every time I see them it feels special. It might explain why this is seventh dedicated post on them! To celebrate it here are seven we spotted the other day in the fish pond.

These are not the greatest shots I have taken of this bird, but I simply couldn’t resist capturing their bath time.

If you love them as much as I do then do explore my list below as you’ll find some fantastic shots in some of the other posts.
- Amazingly they can preen in flight – fabulous shots of them flying
- Stamping – a closer look at a unique feeding technique
- Phoenicopterus – a story of squabbling youngsters
- Too much grey – identifying their origins from their rings
- A year ago – early days of photographing them
- Chief difficulty for Alice – was finding them in 2014/5
And if you are a fan of something why not join Jez with his weekly ‘Fan Of‘ challenge.
I am also a fan of flamingos!
🙂
Nice capture,
Thanks Sue
😊😊
Great shots, Becky 👏 I’ve never seen flamingos in the wild, so looking forward to exploring your other posts on these fantastic birds 😃 Thanks for joining in 😊
One of these days I hope to photograph a really large flock here, but need to head north to Lisboa for that.
We’ve only seen flamingos once, in Las Vegas – at The Flamingo! They seemed well cared for but I would love to see them in the wild.
Really hope you get to see them in the wild, my wish now is to see a flock in its hundreds. The largest we have seen at once here is around 30
I would love to see that.
Flamingos….you are so lucky. One day I hope….on my list with Puffins 🙂
Puffins are on my list too!
Wonderful, we go down to Doñana to see them in January. Water levels very low so perhaps Portugal better bet than Andalucia! Enjoy being in the pink of it!
ooh we saw one yesterday that was from Andalucia! It had a leg ring on and I was able to identify it.
They look so wonderful in the water. I’ve only seem them in zoos. 😀 😀
One of the delights of coming here is seeing them.
I love flamingoes, and coincidentally whenever I see them, or pictures of them, I always think of Alice 🙂
I think we all secretly wanted to be Alice!
Something very special about them, isn’t there?
There really is 🙂
Oh how wonderful to see flamingos regularly. I’ll explore you other posts later: for now, these can keep me happy.!
They are literally a few seconds walk from our apartment at present, if I peered off the side of the roof I could probably see them!
Pink with envy!
I am always in the pink when I see them!
Are we seeing you later?
I made it! Was delayed by flamingos!!
Great excuse!
One of them has a ring so I have been able to identify it is Andalusian. Just sent an email to project leaders to let them know!
Brilliant stuff! Well done you. Was your Spanish up to the job?
lol, didn’t even attempt it and didn’t trust Google translate – so hoping their English is fabulous!
I know. I got into an embarrassing mess with Google translate once,
A great tool for translating back into English as you can figure out the bizarre bit, but definitely a risk the other way!
There’s a brilliant gizmo somewhere which will translate a sentence through 8 languages from English then back into English again. By the time it gets back to English for the second time it’s definitely Chinese Whispers. Wish I could remember its name.
It will come to you . . . .
