The Common Ringed Plover, Borrelho-grande-de-coleira in Portuguese, is one of the most common waders we see in the salt pans and coastal marshes. Whilst seen year round in Portugal, their numbers increase significantly in the winter months due to both migrating and wintering ones. This is either a juvenile or an adult in winter plumage as the black collar is incomplete. Distinguished from other plovers by the yellow ring round its eyes.
Put your shot on high magnification, and cannot discerne the yellow ring.
But the way, egrets paddle their feet, to disturb food.
Plenty in UK, but usually in estuaries.

You will have but usually they’re mixed up with all the other small waders, so you may not have distinguished them from the other plovers

Beautiful! We had such a good day at Ludo last Friday. We were walking with a couple of experienced birders and it made such a difference. A purple galinule and glossy ibis we almost certainly wouldn’t have spotted on our own.
