What a difference a few weeks makes

Remember I said we hoped to take my Mum on the wonderful ‘Flow, Flow Guadiana‘, well we did yesterday, and it was glorious. This walk was wonderful back in early March but in early April you are almost overwhelmed by the beauty of the hills in full colour.Guadiana view

We began again with a coffee at our favourite cafe, before heading down river towards Álamo. The cafe owner thought we were somewhat crazy to walk it yesterday given the high temperatures but we had 4 litres of water between the three of us and so were feeling confident we would be fine. The climb through Álamo certainly stretched the legs again but with numerous stops for close ups of flowers and panoramic shots of the views it wasn’t that noticeable. Nor was the heat a problem not only were we heading out in the morning, we were too busy enjoying the views and smell of cistus to even notice!

We stopped again at the windmill in Corte das Donas, and MrB plans to write a post on it soon as he discovered an engine on this visit. Mum and I though didn’t go inside as there was an enormous bees nest with rather large black bees in the roof. Instead we enjoyed the view and I had a bit of fun with the timer setting!  From Corte das Donas of course it is virtually all downhill and it seemed as though the flora was even more beautiful.

Returning to the river we were surrounded by the smell of orange blossom and wisteria, and the sound of swallows above.  Whilst we did not feel overheated we had virtually finished all of our water, and I think all of us were pleased we were approaching the end of the walk, and looking forward to the beer at the end!

I know this is a very short post for me, but I must dash now off to Tavira to meet up with the gorgeous Jo and her husband for lunch. I’ll be back soon though with a post on my Mum’s orchid hunt.
