One of the delights of having time here is the chance to learn more about the history of where we are staying. One of the most fun ways of course is looking at old photographs and postcards, and a website we have found particularly good is the Photographic Museum of Olhão. There is also a great page on Facebook
Yesterday afternoon I went out with some of the old photographs to photograph the scenes and how they look like today.
I find it fascinating what has changed and what hasn’t. What certainly isn’t a change for the better are the road signs and cars. Not unique to Olhão I know since every city, town and village seems to be overwhelmed by both these days.
I have a quite a few more ‘past and present’ photographs to share especially of the area around the markets which have changed dramatically with the creation of the gardens and promenades. As with Monday’s wildflower post I’ll keep these additional photographs for another day.
Great project 🙂
Thank you, your comment reminds me I must share the others!
Definitely 🙂
I want to try this as well but I often move so it’s difficult for now. I will enjoy ur project then xd
This is really fascinating. Am sure though that Cabanas has changed beyond recognition! Some of the single storey houses are proof of that. Glad you are enjoying your stay it is good to delve deeper into a place. We won’t probably be in Cabanas till March now.
So much of it is the same, even when it’s different, isn’t it, Becky? It’s not a place we like to drive in but it has some great quirky corners. 🙂
Very true 😊
What an interesting post , this is great 🙂
Thank you, had so much fun trying to find each location. Can’t wait to share the next one 🙂
Looking forward to your next one 🙂
Love the way you show the comparison of yesteryears and today!
Thank you . . . think it makes it so much more interesting if you include both.
It does!
