We, too, discovered Portugal during a month-long stay in Madeira on our round-the-world trip in 2013-2014. We followed with a month in Porto, and now just finished 2 months in the south. What a wonderful country! Lucky you to have discovered it long ago with time for repeat visits!

You lucky ones living in Portugal! We love Portugal and we have visited there few times (Lisbon, Praia da Rocha, Sintra, Estoril, Azores and Madeira). That is why we learnt us Portuguese.

Portugal was my destination of choice this winter – and specifically the Algarve, but sadly it’s not going to happen as planned since other commitments have gotten in the way. Hopefully next year! I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about this beautiful country.
oh so sorry you are not going to make it this Winter, but fingers crossed you do next year. It is as wonderful as you have heard, especially if you have the time to explore off the beaten ‘Tourist’ tracks.
I’ve done enough research on Portugal now to know that it will remain high on my must-do list for a while. Fingers crossed for next year!!

Hi Becky, like you we ‘found’ mainland Portugal after lots of trips to Madeira. After much prevarication, we are finally biting the bullet and spending three months in Albufeira this winter. My partner will be working remotely Monday to Friday and we’ll be exploring at weekends. Despite walking the Via Algarviana and returning to walk several link routes and the alternative finish (west coast via Aljezur) we’ve not yet had the opportunity to visit Olhao. Your blog will definitely help us determine the nicest places to explore. Keep up the good work. Tracy

In the 1960s my family shared a house in the Algarve, in Lagos. We went there many times over a 10 year period and your blog is bringing back wonderful memories and making me delightfully nostalgic – I might just have to go there again – soon!
oh I’m so pleased. I think you will find Lagos and the surrounding area has changed quite a bit over the intervening years but if you do return then take time to go east or inland and much may feel unchanged.
